After the hit movies of the 1990s and early 2000s, this series took a long break. Now, it has been brought back for a 8th installment with Final Destination 3. The movie follows Sandra's escape from death on a rollercoaster ride after she has an vision of her own death. She is then warned by Death that she is still in danger and that there are others that are still in danger as well -- including her friends. They all run into more disaster-filled scenes, but this time they are fated to survive... Produced by Craig Perry and directed by James Wong, Final Destination 3 was released on February 10, 2006 in the United Kingdom. The film opened in 2,501 theaters in the United States and grossed $32,787,454 on its opening weekend which placed it at #1 for that week. Final Destination 3 followed up with an additional $23 million overseas for a worldwide total of $55 million. The film was released on DVD on June 6th 2006, with the UK release following on August 4th. The DVD features a commentary by the director and writers, a behind-the-scenes featurette, a featurette on how to survive Final Destination stunts and deleted scenes. Final Destination 3 was also released on HD DVD format, with William Malone's The Stepfather being the first HD title from the studio. In its opening weekend, Final Destination 3 grossed $32 million. The teaser trailer for "Final Destination 3" contained various shots of roller coasters. Universal Studios subsequently demanded that New Line remove all footage of their rides (which was mostly generic stock footage) from the trailer, before they would allow their logos to be placed on it. This is mentioned in the commentary for "Final Destination 3", performed by writers Eric Bress and J. B. Hogan. The trailer also contains footage from the popular, but poorly received roller coaster "Top Gun". The film was released on HD DVD on September 16, 2006 in the United States and September 26, 2006 in the UK. The HD DVD features a commentary by director James Wong and writers Eric Bress and J. B. Hogan; a featurette on how to survive Final Destination stunts; deleted scenes; and trailers for "Final Destination 3", "Big Fish", and "The Stepfather".
